偶然的机会,得以结识了马欣乐先生。看了他的画,很有感触。

  欣乐是一位学贯中西的画家,写实的画风折射出他坚实的造型能力,在当今美术界浮躁虚华的氛围下

,有点看家本领是很必要的,而且肯定会受益。我有点奇怪,作为在美国取得西方绘画艺术硕士学位,并

已在美国生活、工作了十多年的他,作品竟然丝毫不受时风影响。如果不清楚他的经历,仅凭作品,完全

可以认定他是一位地道的中国本土画家。这是什么原因呢?我以为这完全是基于其与生俱来、挥之不去的

中国血统、中国情结。

  早年在祖国奠定的艺术基础,在其后来与西方艺术的紧密接触之中产生了中西绘画观念上的碰撞,这

种碰撞是一种精神上的交手,是一种意识上的交锋,是一场不“打”不相识的无硝烟较量。如果没有对中

西文化特别是中西美术观的了解,是不会在这种碰撞中有所感触,有所醒悟的。众所周知,中国绘画特别

注重精神层面的开掘,这是绘画的高级阶段。因此,它的发展轨迹并非如西方绘画那样走向极端,穷途而

返,而是寓道于画,顺乎自然,大巧若拙,大动若静,明乎此理,才能对中西绘画有正确的理解。

  欣乐近年来中国画画得很多,画得也很出色,作品题材涉猎很广,几乎无所不包,达到了中国绘画所

谓的“能品”层次。但是他对此似乎并不满足,还在积极探求,广收博取,企求突破。我认为他在追求“

技进乎道”之“道”。也就是在追求精神层面上的东西,力图超越“能品”、“妙品”,向“神品”、“

逸品”挺进。这是一种可贵的大彻大悟,一种可行的高来高去,一种可敬的独探独闯。

  马欣乐先生有不凡的见识、能力、精神,又正值翩翩年华,手中执有中西绘画双刃剑,我以为将有大

业,待其拓展;将有宏图,待其绘就。

  Che Pengfei

  Icame to know Ma Xinle through a social occasion. Now that I' ve studied his paintings,

I' m deeply moved by them.

  Mr. Ma is a painter who possess knowledge of both Western and Eastern art, with the

skills of Western style reflected in his solid compositional ability. In today' s brash,

showy and ostentatious art world, it is more necessary than ever to fight to obtain one' s

own individual viewpoint and skills, which Ma to his credit has gained. What I find most

surprising is that after obtaining a master' s graduate degree in Western painting and

working fifteen years in the United States, I sense Xinle has never been fundamentally

influenced by that atmosphere. If judged only by his works one would believe he is entirely

a local Chinese master, a result I ascribe to his inborn and unimpeachable passion for

Chinese art.

  With his artistic foundation established in China and his close contact with Western

art, he has benefited from the collision of the two paradigms, creating a spiritual and

ideological fusion which has greatly benefited him as an artist. His soul has been stirred

by both Western and Eastern culture. As we all know, Chinese painting emphasizes the

exploration of the spiritual through which one can fully achieve the highest level of art.

The path of Chinese painting is not like that of the West, which works to one extreme.

Instead, Chinese painting is based on Dao- the principle of nature. Nature is its source,

and it depicts ingenuity through clumsiness, the most intense movement through stillness.

Only by understanding this principle can one hope to have a better understanding of the

differences of Western and Chinese painting.

  Xinle Ma has been more prolific in recent years, and his Chinese paintings are

outstanding. They demonstrate a versatility that includes anything he wishes to paint, and

all his works reach a rather high level. However, he is not satisfied with what he has

accomplished. He keeps exploring, pursuing a higher path, a higher spiritual level. He

keeps trying to obtain the ultimate richness of translating his understanding of nature into

art. He is performing at a higher level and awakening new abilities, innovating while

respecting the past.

  Xinle Ma has had extraordinary experiences, which have combined with his strong personal

determination and innate capability. Holding a sword whose separate blades represent

Western and East art, I believe he will keep developing and ultimately reach a tremendous

achievement. There is great work for him to accomplish.
